FAQ

PCB manufacturing FAQ

Answers to common questions about lead times, files, capabilities and quality at our Burnaby, BC plant.

Ordering and lead times

Where is Enigma Interconnect located?

Our 38,000 sq. ft. manufacturing plant is at 8070 Winston Street, Burnaby, BC, in Metro Vancouver, Canada. We are Canadian-owned and have been building printed circuit boards here since 1973. Planning a visit or audit? Please call ahead.

How fast can you build PCBs?

Quick-turn prototypes can ship in as little as 30 hours. Lead time depends on your design, layer count, materials and quantity, so choose your required turnaround on the quote form and we will confirm what we can do. See quick-turn PCBs.

How quickly will I get a quote?

We reply to quote requests within 24 hours.

How do I request a quote?

Use our quote form to send your details and up to 5 files (50 MB each), or email your files to boards@enigmacorp.com.

Can you handle high-volume production?

Yes. We build prototypes and production boards in Burnaby, and we partner with fully approved, certified offshore manufacturers for high-volume and low-cost requirements, fully backed by the Enigma warranty.

Do you work with customers in the United States?

Yes, we work with customers across Canada and the United States. For current questions about tariffs or CUSMA, please contact us or see our news updates.

Files and design

What files do you need for a quote?

Gerber (RS-274X) or ODB++ files with drill data, plus a fabrication drawing that shows the stack-up, finish, solder mask and legend colours, quantity and any controlled impedance requirements. Our design guidelines list everything to include.

Do you review designs for manufacturability (DFM)?

Yes. We review your design against IPC standards before we build, so your boards build right and fit your budget.

How many layers can you build?

1 to 24 layers, including hybrid constructions, controlled impedance, and blind and buried vias. See the full capability table.

What are your smallest features?

On advanced builds: trace and space down to 0.003" (0.075 mm) on outer foil, drills down to 0.0059" (0.15 mm), aspect ratio up to 13:1 and solder mask dams down to 0.002" (0.050 mm). The capability table lists standard and advanced values.

Which materials do you use?

FR4 (Ventec, Nan Ya, Isola 370HR, Megtron 6, FR408-HR), high-frequency laminates (Rogers, Arlon, Isola), thermal management materials (Bergquist, Ventec, Laird) and Isola P95 polyimide. Need something else? Ask us.

Which final finishes do you offer?

In house: ENIG, immersion silver, flash gold, HASL (tin/lead), hard gold, carbon paste and OSP. Soft gold, ENEPIG, DI gold and immersion tin are available through outsourcing.

Quality and compliance

What certifications do you hold?

AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015 (Intertek), UL approval (File E64339), registration with Canada's Controlled Goods Program, IPC membership and RoHS compliance. View them on our quality page.

What is the Enigma Spec?

Our own standard: Class 3 copper plating thickness on all PCBs we manufacture, so we exceed the minimum industry standards rather than just meeting them.

How are boards inspected and tested?

Every board is inspected by IPC-A-600 certified inspectors and machine tested before shipment. We also use automated optical inspection, a coordinate measuring machine, line width measurement and impedance testing with reports available.

Can you build defence and controlled goods work?

Yes. We are registered with Canada's Controlled Goods Program and provide AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports for aerospace and defence customers. Please contact us before sending controlled technical data so we can arrange a suitable transfer method. See aerospace & defence PCBs.

Do you build PCBs for quantum computing?

Yes. We manufacture superconducting aluminum-trace boards in house and are licensed to manufacture quantum PCB holders using D-Wave Systems technology. See Quantum PCB.

Can you provide conflict minerals forms?

Yes. Email boards@enigmacorp.com for our current Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) and Cobalt Reporting Template (CRT).
